Our open-pit mine and concentrator in Voisey's Bay - Vale's only fly-in/fly-out operation in Canada - produces nickel-cobalt-copper concentrate and copper concentrate. An underground expansion will see a transition to a leading edge underground mine extending the life of the mine until 2034. Our state-of the-art facility in Long Harbour is the first nickel processing plant in the world to use hydrometallurgy technology to produce Plating RoundsTM from hard rock (sulphide) concentrate, with low carbon footprint compared to traditional smelter technology. The Opportunity: We are currently seeking a Senior Project Geologist to join our Exploration department in Voisey's Bay, NL. This permanent position is based at the Voisey's Bay mine site in Labrador, a fly-in fly-out operation. This position is on a two week on, two week off rotation. The Senior Project Geologist will be responsible for generation and implementation of significant exploration programs of up to and including multiple projects, target areas for all aspects of Exploration - including area selection, prospecting, mapping, surveying, drilling, sampling, interpretation, evaluation and reporting. They will ensure effective exploration by applying technically and financially suitable methods in office and field studies while adhering to standard company (operating) procedures. The Senior Geologist will participate in project planning and budget preparation and can propose new projects. Additionally, in this position, you will: Coordinate, plan and implement exploration programs including, significant exploration programs including multiple projects and target areas for all aspects of Exploration including area selection, prospecting, mapping, surveying, drilling, logging, sampling, interpretation, evaluation and reporting; Assist in consolidating monthly expenditures/physical and forecasts budgets for assigned projects; Ensure work is planned and implemented in accordance to Vale's health, safety, environmental and community normative documents and policies in compliance with local laws; Prepare summary presentations for general evaluation of existing projects. Ability to effectively interact with DIPM and Base Metals peers. Strong technical knowledge including practical aspects of exploration, drilling, geophysics, hole orientation, hole planning and steering, hole surveying and geotechnical technics.
