The Opportunity We are currently seeking a Power Systems Operator to join our Power Department in Sudbury, ON. This is a permanent position covered under the Collective Agreement between Vale and the Local 2020-05 United Steelworkers. The role of a Power Systems Operator is critical to the operation of Vale's High Voltage Power Distribution System and the Power Generating Plants. In this position you will: Follow Safety and Risk Management Plan developed for department. Follow company standards and government regulations in the operation of the Vale High Voltage Power Distribution System and Generating Plants. Follow High Tension Switching Procedures thereby providing a safe working environment for workers Coordinate all outages with operating plants before and during planned maintenance. Liaise with the IESO and Hydro One for operations and planned outages. Analyze power outages and following company standards and established protocols, restore power to the affected areas as soon as it is safe to do so. Follow established procedures and protocols in an effort to maximize the value of generation and reduce the cost of purchased power, e.g., in the event of peak power situation. Work collaterally with members of his/her work group and cross functionally with all other About You Education: Graduate of Electrical Engineering Technologist or equivalent. Experience: Minimum of three years of relevant experience is preferred. Skills: Analytical: Ability to read and understand electrical prints and drawings.
